Founded in 2018 in NYC, Habitat is  a collaborative platform dedicated to supporting emerging and established photographers  through critques, interviews and artist residences.

Habitat hosts accessible, short-term artist residencies in various locations for the purpose of allowing emerging artists to explore and expand their medium in a new location.  Habitat’s residency goal is to offer a  short-term weekend residency to cater to artists who cannot take off long-term from their day-jobs, freelance work or any other timing or financial restrictions. Unlike most residencies that are anywhere from two weeks to six months long (and often charge for room and board) the weekend residency offers a healthy respite while offering a space and home to experiment within their craft.

The Habitat Residency is an ideal location for any independent and/or  introverted photographer who is looking for private space to decompress and focus on craft.

This residency is aimed at photographers but writers are also welcome to apply.

There is a non-refundable $15 cost to apply (via venmo) for each application. There are no additional costs if chosen for residency.

Habitat is a not-for-profit self-sustained project and each application collectively contributes to funding the cost of the residency. If you are unable to pay the application fee please email for a discount (no DMs please)

Additional perks
$100 meal stipend and Lomography gift donation.

Artists are not required to showcase any work created at residency.

Habitat currently has no funding but accepts donations (via venmo) and grant recommendations that go towards enhancing the current residency and any future residencies. <3
